Although prior success is no guarantee of future results, we are proud to announce our clients' recent successes.

Arbitration Win

In early June our firm was co-counsel for a land buyer in a real estate dispute that went to arbitration. Our client won after the opposing party conceded during lunch on the first day of the arbitration hearing. Our client had been thoroughly prepared and received a full refund of his six-figure escrow deposit.

Dismissal During Trial

In late May 2009 our attorney Olaide Banks successfully defended a felony fraud charge and received a dismissal during his cross examination of the prosecution's first witness. The prosecutor filed a motion to dismiss the charges after the prosecution's first witness was caught misstating the facts and department procedures on four separate occasions during her testimony. Had the case not been dismissed, the jury was prepared to acquit our client.

Another Acquittal

In late March 2009 our attorney Patrick Ngwolo won an acquittal for a young man accused evading arrest and other charges. Patrick tried the case to a jury after our young client maintained his innocence throughout the process and exercised his right to a trial by jury. After a drama-filled two-day trial, where Patrick was able to point out several inaccuracies and conflicts in the police officer's testimony, the jury returned a not-guilty verdict in only five minutes.

Dismissal In Mortgage Fraud Case

In the first major white collar criminal defense case that our firm handled this year, our client recently won a dismissal on the first degree felony charges against him.

Our client had been accused of mortgage fraud in transactions totaling more than $3 million. He maintained his innocence throughout the entire process. Our client labored under the burden of these charges that could have carried a penalty of as much as 99 years in prison if convicted.

Our client was indicted in April 2007 and after being arrested, he remained in prison from August 2007 until October 2007. He hired this firm in March 2008. Through diligent preparation and cooperation with the client we were able to prepare a solid defense and position our client for success at trial.

The charges were dropped, and the case was dismissed against our client just one week before trial.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

One of our clients recently won the right to purchase the home that he has lived in under a lease with a purchase option for the past 12 years. Our client signed a long-term agreement in 1997 that gave him the right to purchase the home at a price specified in the contract, as long as he paid his monthly payments on time.

Our client paid his monthly payments on time and made several improvements to the property over the course of his time in the home. When our client attempted to purchase the home outright, the former owner refused to accept the payment and filed a suit to evict our client.

Although our client was frustrated and disappointed, he was determined to fight and save his home. After a victory for our client in the JP Court, the former owner refused to sell the home and appealed to the County Court.

We had the honor of representing our client in the JP Court and County Court and prevailing in both.

Let's Get Settled

One of our clients recently reached a settlement with an insurance company within weeks of hiring our firm. Our client had been representing himself in negotiations with an insurance company for more than a year and had made no progress.

Our client was injured and his car severely damaged when a truck carrying a load of pipes lost its load while heading west on Interstate 10. Our client had no time to respond and was forced to drive off the freeway to avoid even more serious damage.

The truck driver's insurance company originally promised to resolve this matter quickly given that our client's request was reasonable. Still the company dragged the process out for more than a year, challenging minor medical expenses. We were able to reach a settlement that was double the amount originally offered by the insurance company.
